James is Chief Investment Officer with Kanaly. He is responsible for overseeing the investment process for all personal and institutional accounts of the firm. He provides depth, talent and leadership to Kanaly’s investment team and works to implement broad, multi-asset class investment opportunities for clients. James believes in adhering to a disciplined investment strategy that effectively manages risk and produces strong long-term returns.
James comes to Kanaly from AIM Investments of Houston. He joined AIM in 2002 as a senior client portfolio manager and was elevated to manager of investment services prior to leaving the firm. From 1999 to 2002 he was the co-founder and CIO of his own firm, Caprock Capital Advisors, Inc. of Houston. All in all, James has nearly 20 years in the investment industry.
Originally from Houston, James received an MBA from the University of Houston and completed an undergraduate degree at Baylor University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and holds NASD Series 6, 7, 24 and 63 certifications. James is a regular guest on CNBC programs such as Power Lunch and Squawk on the Street. He provides commentary on Bloomberg Television and FOX Business News programs. He has been quoted in many print and online publications including CNNMoney.com, Smartmoney.com, The Washington Times, Bankrate.com and Investment News. James serves as chair of Kanaly’s Investment Committee, and is also a member of the Executive and Management Committees. He has been named to the FIVE STAR: Best in Client Satisfaction Wealth ManagerSM list for 2009, which will be published in the September, 2009 issue of Texas Monthly.
