Biography of James Shelton

James is Chief Investment Officer with Kanaly. He is responsible for overseeing the investment process for all personal and institutional accounts of the firm. He provides depth, talent and leadership to Kanaly’s investment team and works to implement broad, multi-asset class investment opportunities for clients. James believes in adhering to a disciplined investment strategy that effectively manages risk and produces strong long-term returns.

James comes to Kanaly from AIM Investments (now Invesco) of Houston. He joined AIM in 2002 as a senior client portfolio manager and was elevated to manager of investment services prior to leaving the firm. From 1999 to 2002 he was the co-founder and CIO of his own firm, Caprock Capital Advisors, Inc. of Houston. All in all, James has approximately 20 years in the investment industry.

Originally from Houston, James received an MBA from the University of Houston and completed his undergraduate degree at Baylor University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and is a member of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association.  

A regular guest on CNBC, James provides commentary for programs such as Reports, Power Lunch and Squawk on the Street. He has appeared on several FOX Business News and Bloomberg Television programs and has been quoted in many print and online publications including CNNMoney.com, Smartmoney.com, The Wall Street Journal, Marketwatch.com and Businessweek. James serves as chair of Kanaly’s Investment Committee, and is also a member of the Executive and Management Committees. He has been named to the FIVE STAR: Best in Client Satisfaction Wealth ManagerSM list for 2009
