About Kanaly

Meet Us David Doll

When I’m not in the office, you can usually find me on the ice, coaching hockey.  As a coach of the Houston Hitmen (a junior hockey association of travel teams based in Houston), it’s my job to teach skills and develop talent, determine game positions, and evaluate the personal contributions of each player to the team.  I’ve learned that there’s more to coaching than just “directing the puck” and ironically, hockey terms and analogies tend to guide my executive leadership approach as CEO at Kanaly Trust.

Born and raised in upstate New York, I came to Houston for a college education.  Little did I know, I’d end up staying because of the city and its people.   My wife and two children are proud to call Houston home, too and we have enjoyed many opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

A personal passion for me is my role as Chairman of the Board for the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP). KIPP, with over 50 schools across the United States, is on the vanguard of the charter school movement in our country. It has allowed me to be a part of making an impact in changing education here and beyond.

I joined Kanaly Trust in 1988 and today, I take pride in leading a company that holds a unique position in the industry.

It has also been a privilege developing some of our future leaders inside the firm during my time here.  In fact, four of my previous team members have grown to lead their own client teams. I am also fortunate to have my long-time assistant Donna Baker who is always there to help me, and you, my clients, with whatever we need.

Although I am fulfilling a long-time dream by leading this company, serving you is really my first love at work.  Even as CEO, I continue to maintain client relationships.  In fact, I think it is crucial to be directly connected to what we do for people to be a better leader. For you, it’s all about execution.  Knowing our business is all about the intimacy behind what’s going on, understanding what needs to get done and accomplishing the tasks.

Anyone can buy stocks and bonds, or invest in private equity, but having a true understanding of how they fit together and why and how they serve a greater purpose creates success.  Seeking out the best financial resources, to provide the best results, in the best interest of your goals is key.

Providing you with the necessary value that you seek, taking you beyond the fancy binder and pretty color charts, and truly earning your trust are personal successes to me.

For me, it would be the greatest honor to be on the short list of meaningful people who made a difference in someone’s life.  Just like that old college buddy or special teacher from junior high school that you always remember.

I want to be on your short list and share how I can make a meaningful impact in your life.    Let’s talk!
