Abbott is a Senior Vice President with Kanaly. After graduating from Bowdoin College, he began his career in New York City as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager for Oppenheimer Capital Management, Inc. In 1980 he moved from New York to Houston to be a portfolio manager for AIM Management Group, Inc. During the course of his career at AIM he held several positions. When he retired in 2001 he was a Senior Vice President of AIM, Member of the Executive Committee, Senior Management Committee, Investment Policy Committee, Product Line Review Committee, and President of Fund Management Company, AIM’s Institutional Broker-Dealer. After retiring from AIM Abbott founded Computer Home Services, LP, a computer support business that services families and small businesses.
An active leader in Houston’s Alley Theatre, Abbott has served on the organization’s board of directors since 1993. He has been a member of the Executive Committee since 1995, and previously served as president and chairman of the board. Abbott continues to serve on the the organization’s Endowment Committee and the Presidents Council.
Heavily involved in the Kinkaid School, Abbott has served on its Board of Trustees since 2001 and its Executive Committee since 2006. He also sits on the school’s Finance, Retirement and Endowment Committees. Abbott serves on the St. John the Divine Endowment Fund, was a Trustee for Tabor Academy from 1998 to 2008, is currently a member of the Benefits Committee and the Long Range Planning Committee at Houston Country Club, and serves as Trustee for The Junior League of Houston Endowment Fund.
